WYMS is our annual free to enter music competition for young soloist who live or attend school within the Walsall area. The competition is split into two categories:
Walsall Young Music Star (Secondary)
Walsall Up and Coming Young Music Star (Primary - up to and including grade 3 standard)
(Primary school student's performing above grade 3 standard would enter the Walsall Young Music Star Category)
Applicants enter the heats with a piece of music in any style or genre, but limited to a maximum length of 3 minutes 30 seconds. These will be judged by specialist adjudicators who give feedback and select the finalists. The Heats are held live at Walsall Arena and Arts Centre W/C 2nd March 2026, likely to be in the evening from 4:30pm onwards on Wednesday 4th March (Tuesday 3rd March evening as well, if needed). If any candidate cannot make the live dates, online entries will still be accepted (please contact Matt at matt.firkins@walsall.gov.uk once you've submitted your entry).
The Live Final will be at 7:00pm on Thursday 26th March 2026 at Walsall Arena and Arts Centre.
